Cthulhupalooza was a benefit event in Vancouver BC Canada organized by Blackhammer Productions and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets to celebrate the latter’s inclusion on Rock Band the video game. The event consisted of a Rock Band contest, a screening of the silent film The Call of Cthulhu (by the H.P. Just a quick note, while we all recover from a fantastic weekend - the early reports say; Cthulhupalooza was a success! While there were some technical hitches, and time was tight, everyone had a great time, money was raised for Child’s Play, and overall, everyone seems to want to do it again. So stay tuned for more on that! It can only get better and better!
A big thanks to everyone who came out and a great big thanks to all our sponsors who went above and beyond with their generous support!
More soon!

Movie madness (literally, movies to drive you mad)
Posted by Stewbacca in Uncategorized
To this point, the only film we’ve mentioned to Cthulhupalooza has been The HP Lovecraft Historical Society - The Call of Cthulhu. This is because, this was the only film we were certain we would be showing - but now, as scheduling solidifies, we’re happy to outline some of the other great cinematics we’ll be showing (showtimes subject to the chaos of the day);
Trailer Park - A selection of suitably entertaining “coming soons”
My Necronomicon - A short film that succinctly demonstrates the hazards of esoteric research.
Call of Tutu - One inmates story about a cat. At least, he calls it a cat.
Special Surprise - As yet untitled (it’s probably titled, but we’re not sure what that title is yet), Sponsor Elfsar Comics is proud to share this short film produced in conjunction with some notable patrons.
Dangerous Welcome - A special showing of this Captain Nemo animated short. And you think you left these behind in the 80s. NO!
Also, The Rio will be following Cthulhupalooza with a special screening of the Josh Gilbert documentary, AKA Tommy Chong - more info on that soon and what it means to attendees of Cthulhupalooza!
What’s happening when?

[UPDATE - Slight change, as the Rock Band finals will take place prior to the movies now.]
The exact timeline of the event has been a bit approximate for the last few weeks as we sorted out the size of the Rock Band competition, which currently looks like it’s going to be a good size. Based on that, here’s a rough breakdown of the day;
Saturday, December 6th, The Rio
———————————
Doors at 5PM - Between opening and 7:30PM, the preliminaries for the Rock Band contest will take place, while those not competing will have a chance to give the game a try as well!
7:30PM - Rock Band Finals!
8:00PM - Trailers
8:15 - Rock Band Winners Announced
8:30PM - Film program, with Call of Cthulhu starting at 9PM.
10PM - The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets wrap the day up by bringing the house down!
Donations haunt strange, far places!

Can’t come? Don’t want a t-shirt? Still want to help?
(sniff)
You guys rock.
But seriously, if you’re not in Vancouver, or will be out-of-town, or helping someone move or whatever, but you still want to help Child’s Play, you can either go to childsplaycharity.org, where you will find several ways help buy toys and send money for the kids OR if you don’t want to go through all that, you can send us money, and we will add it to the funds raised as part of Cthulhupalooza!
